Thousands Attend PSJA ISD 3rd Annual Trunk or Treat Event

PHARR – The Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Independent School District (PSJA ISD) hosted its 3rd Annual Trunk or Treat: Calling All Heroes, A Night of Capes & Candy on October 28, 2025, at PSJA Stadium. The event drew more than 7,500 students, families, and community members for an evening of Halloween fun celebrating both spooky creativity and the power of imagination.

This year’s theme encouraged participants to dress as their favorite superheroes, honoring everyday heroes found in stories, schools, and communities alike. Families enjoyed a safe, family-friendly environment filled with decorated trunks, games, candy, music, and opportunities to connect with PSJA ISD’s literacy initiatives.

A highlight of the night was the Costume Contest, where participants showcased their creative costumes for a chance to win in multiple categories. Among the crowd favorites was a young student dressed as “El Paletero Man,” whose costume captured hearts for its cultural charm and creativity.

His mother, Yajaira, shared the heartfelt inspiration behind her son’s winning costume:

“I dressed up my child as the Paletero man. He comes every Tuesday and Sunday,” said Yajaira. “One day, he stopped to give us this little horn. It was then that I got inspired to dress up my son as the Paletero man. It’s something that really represents our neighborhood and childhood memories.”

The evening also featured the Most Spirited Feeder Pattern competition, in which PSJA North earned the top award. Farias Elementary won the Most Spirited Campus. The competition was designed to promote collaboration and school pride among feeder schools across the district.

Superintendent Dr. Alejandro Elias praised the event’s continued growth and its importance as a safe alternative for students and families to enjoy Halloween festivities:

“Events like our Trunk or Treat are a wonderful way to bring our PSJA Family together in a safe and fun environment,” said Dr. Elias. “We know parents want their children to enjoy Halloween without worrying about safety, and our schools and staff work hard to make this event both educational and exciting for everyone.”

The success of the event was made possible thanks to the support of local vendors, sponsors, and PSJA ISD schools and departments, all coming together to provide a memorable and secure Halloween celebration for the community.
