Steps to Enroll
Interested in taking college courses while in high school? Here are the basic steps:
- Study for the TSI Assessment. Use the links in this section to learn about the TSI assessment and then study for the assessment using the free resources provided in the links. See your counselor for campus tutoring schedules and assessment dates/times.
- Take the TSI Assessment. Contact our Early College Director, Abram Estrada, for testing dates and information.
- Once you pass, it is time to complete your Apply Texas application. Visit your counselor or the Early College Center on campus for help before you begin the application. Some college classes don't require that you pass the TSI exam, but that you at least attempt it. Your counselor can give you more information about this.
- Visit with your counselor to sign up for college courses. If you are interested in taking college courses through South Texas College, you can begin as early as the second semester of your freshman year. If you are interested in taking college courses through the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, click on their link in this section to learn more about their pre-requisites. UTRGV dual credit classes begin at the end of your sophomore year.
- Stay on track, use the resources available to you in this section if you are struggling, ask for help when you need it and work hard. Before you know it, you'll be graduating from Southwest Early College High School with not only a high school diploma, but also with an Associate's Degree!
Contact your counselor or Early College Director, Abram Estrada, if you have any questions or if you need assistance. You can do this!
